In America we are known for doing everything BIG, so it’s not surprising that in nutrition there’s an American Diet characterized by an excess of calories and sugar. Full disclosure, I am only studying for my certification as a Nutrition Coach, so I am not qualified yet to tell you that calories in and calories out will be the number one dietary factor that determines whether you lose or gain weight. There are a lot of diets out there: Paleo, low-carb, Mediterranean, Cave Man, intermittent fasting, Super Hero, Cartoon Character, See-it Eat-it, Donuts and coffee . . . OK, I just made up some of those.
Two bits of advise about getting fit and/or losing some weight. One (and you should be able to guess this one), Keep Moving! Find an activity you enjoy or can tolerate and get yourself off the smartphone, off the couch, and moving.
Two, eat smaller portions. Or if you hate the idea of eating smaller portions as much as I do, fill your plate every meal 1/2 full of green vegetables. I won’t lie to you, at first the 1/2 plate of veggies strategy is tough. It’s a lot to munch on, but as this became a habit for me I found the veggies more palatable, and more importantly I found I rarely went for seconds.
